Yin Yoga

I have been recently doing Yin Yoga - I love it! What is so great about this type of yoga? The stretches are held anywhere from 2 minutes to 20 minutes. I usually hold my stretches for 5 minutes. The nice thing about this type of yoga is that the body is in a relaxed state working with gravity, not against it. Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body that normally are not exercised very much in a more active style of asana practice. Yin Yoga generally targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine.


Every time I do this yoga before bed I sleep really deeply. It seems that almost everyone I know needs to stretch more, myself included. I was amazed when I started doing this yoga that I actually had the discipline to do it myself and for an hour and a half at a time. The first DVD I purchased was a DVD by Paul Grilley.
